IELTS: friendlier for many
IELTS has more test centres in Indonesia, more familiar question format, and a friendlier speaking interview.
TOEFL: required for US-track
US universities and some China programs still favour TOEFL. Singapore accepts both, but check the program page before assuming.
Score targets
NUS, NTU, SMU floor is roughly IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90. Top programs prefer 7.0 or 100. Build above the floor, not at it.
